New Life Science Enterprise Zone

The Life Science Enterprise Zone at Alderley Park was officially launched today by Councillor Don Stockton, Cheshire East Council’s portfolio holder for regeneration and Dr Chris Doherty, Site Director for Alderley Park.

The new Enterprise Zone, part of the Cheshire Science Corridor offers 21.5 hectares comprising 1.1 million sq ft of built floorspace with the potential to create up to 7000 highly skilled jobs. The new status offers businesses moving in to the site a maximum of 100% business rate relief of up to £55,000 per year for up to five years; enhanced capital allowances and an on-site dedicated business support programme.

In his keynote address Councillor Stockton said: "Alderley Park is already a compelling place to locate a business, but the new Enterprise Zone provides significant new incentives to businesses operating in the biotech and life science sectors. The growth and expansion of new businesses, increased employment and the reinvestment of business rates will support the long term growth of Alderley Park and Cheshire East,"

The launch event welcomed representatives from the property sector, local businesses and investors to introduce the benefits Enterprise Zone status brings to the Campus.  Blueberry Therapeutics, based at Alderley Park, recently completed their application for business rate relief.  Speaking at the event Dr. Mike Davies, Chief Medical Officer and Co-Founder of Blueberry said: “The application process was very simple and straightforward.  We received guidance and support from both the finance team at Alderley Park and the Skills and Growth Company.  I would urge everyone that is eligible to apply”.

Alderley Park is already home to over 150 businesses from the life science sector, employing more than 550 staff.

Dr. Chris Doherty, Site Director for Alderley Park, said: "This is a great day for all involved in supporting life sciences across the Cheshire region.  The Enterprise Zone will give businesses based at Alderley Park access to additional important financial incentives, alongside the services and support we already provide."
