BioHub at Alderley Park picks up two top industry awards
BioHub, the business incubator unit at Alderley Park, is celebrating after picking up two awards at a leading life sciences industry event.
The OBN Awards 2017, run by the official UK life sciences membership organisation, celebrate the best of UK life sciences and bring together more than 250 industry leaders.
BioHub, which is operated by life science incubation specialist, The BioCity Group, picked up the accolade for Best UK Life Science Incubator for the second year in a row thanks to its outstanding work as the epicentre for start up life science businesses in the North West. It also won the top award of the night, the Outstanding Achievement Award, for ‘overcoming challenges, thinking more innovatively and simply working hard to succeed’.
John Harris, CEO of OBN, said: "We received an outstanding number of entries this year; up a staggering 120 per cent on last year, so competition was really tough. All of our winners and nominees this year are truly innovative and set a great example to the rest of the industry. We would like to thank all of our sponsors and supporters for helping make the awards a success, which acts as a reflection of how buoyant and supportive the industry is today."
Dr Chris Doherty, Managing Director at Alderley Park, said: “It’s a great sense of achievement to see the strong BioHub team recognised in this way by the leaders in the UK life sciences industry and we feel very proud.”
Ned Wakeman, BioHub Director, said: “In a relatively short space of time the BioHub has proved highly successful, helping start-ups such as Blueberry Therapeutics go from a virtual business to a drug discovery company with drug candidates in clinical trials.
“We have worked hard to create the optimum environment for emerging businesses to thrive by offering world class laboratories and commercial office space, training, business support and access to investment.
“The continued successes of the businesses at the BioHub is testament to how well it is working. We have seen the creation of a scientific community of collaborators where experienced scientists come together and conduct world-class research.
“We look forward to continuing to support this work and welcoming more companies to the fold.”
The BioHub enables emerging pharmaceutical, biotech and life science companies to take advantage of some of the UK’s best invested research and development facilities, scientific heritage and industry experts, while operating entirely independently.
