Projects are the way in which organisations bring about change and innovation. However, according to research, around only 60% of projects meet their initial objectives upon completion - the success rate being not much better than a "coin flip".

The success or failure of a project is not down to random chance - success requires active leadership from the very beginnings of the project. Research also tells us that the quality of this "front-end" of the project is the strongest predictor of the project's eventual success - it drives cost and schedule predictability, reduces operability problems and increases the likelihood of the project meeting its business case. Mistakes made early in the project lifecycle often result in issues emerging later on that projects cannot recover from.

From both academic and industrial research and our collaborations with our executive education clients, this presentation will explore some of the ways in which we can improve project success.
